The holiday house stands on a waterfront plot on the shore of Lake Balaton. In siting the building, the aims were to leave as large a free garden area as possible and to orient the living and sleeping rooms towards the lake. The house is a very compact building on a small footprint; thanks to a carefully considered floor plan, however, we were able to fit four further well-sized, comfortable rooms in addition to the living–dining–kitchen space, without creating any wasted area in the building. On the ground floor, the living–dining–kitchen area has a direct connection to the garden, as does the parents' bedroom, while the three bedrooms upstairs open onto a large terrace with a panorama of Lake Balaton. The upper-floor terrace also provides natural shading for the spaces below. The floor-to-ceiling windows of the rooms heighten the sense of space inside and allow interior and exterior to live together.
